Gold Post #2- Best Timed Writing
“America’s main streets and malls now boast the same Pizza Huts, Taco Bells, Gaps and Banana republics...” (pg. 5)
This quote and book in general reminds me of listening to The Savage Nation radio station with Dr. Michael Savage, because of the factual and biographic writing style by Carl N. Karcher. It also reminds me of the movies that we watched in P.E. last year about fast food companies and history. Movies such as “Supersize Me” and “Food Inc.”. The movies were all about fast food and factual based background information including facts, percentages, ratios and much more.
The book’s connection to “The Savage Nation” is through of which Michael Savage often speaks out about America’s fast food industries and the economical ties to society, government, businesses and such. Savage includes both positive and negative factors of these such companies.
Fast Food Nation begins by telling the background story of Carl Karcher; starting as a farmer boy who dropped out of school to work full time on the farm until he had enough money to buy his own hotdog stand as his first means of food business.
The book mostly focuses on fast food’s facts and history with small and big business and franchises. It as well includes how the human diet has changed more over the past 40 years then it has in the past 40,000 years or so.
What’s behind the shiny foil; What’s in between those two seeded buns- for real? Facts, number, opinions, truth, details, experiences, life stories, history and much more! Fast Food Nation’s information connects with many daily things we all listen to and learn about.

The author of my book fast food nations which is Eric Schlosser born august 17 1959 is an american journalist. He is well known for investigative journalism such as his books, fast food nations , reefer madness, and chew on this which is a childrens book. Eric spent his childhood in los angeles california. His father is Herbert Schlosser, a former wall street lawyer who turned to broadcasting later in his career eventually became presidant of NBC in 1974.Eric appeared in an interview for the dvd of morgan spurlock's super size me. He made public appearance with robert kenner, and interviewed by Franny Armstrong in 2005 and is featured interviewee in her film Mclibel.
I think that the way knowing the truth about the american food is pretty crazy cause now i actually know what goes on before our food is being put into the grocery stores, markets, and so on.

Gold Post #1 ("my choice")
Eric Schlosser is an American journalist who was born August 17, 1959 in Manhatten, New York. He spent his childhood in Los Angeles, California wit his fatehr who was a former Wall Street lawyer and later became president of NBC in 1974. Fast Food Nation takes place from roughly the early 1930's to present day.
I remember last year in P.E. when we watched movies such as "SuperSize Me" and "Fast Food, Inc", and learned about the fast food industries and their growth over time along with its tactics, tricks, buisness, founders and much more. It's been nearly a year since I have eaten food from ANY major fast food chain resteraunts such as McDonalds, KFC, Wendy's (etc). I have made this decision based on the ways I learned that they treat their animals and how unhealthy their addicting and life threatening food really is.
It came to my attention that commercials and advertisments for McDonalds (and other such chain fast food places) bend the truth to promote themselves, making promises or statements that may not be necesarily true. They don't lie neccessarily, as much as they just don't state the whole truth. In other words, they don't say everything. For instance, they say "made fresh every day", when really we see through the book (and common sense) that "made fresh" simply means taken out of the boxes and freezer storage and heated up ready to go. Did we really let ourselves think they made their food with love and smiles everyday because it's their passion? Well we shouldn't have, because it's not. Most employees there are working for minimum wage while they are stuggling to balance, failing or dropping out of school. They absolutely don't have smiles on their faces as they get up at the crack of dawn and serve in a greasy, disgusting kitchen while dealing with grumpy customers. Fast Food Nation drew me to read it because of facts like this and what I've been able to learn.
Thanks for reading. -Goldie Murray
